Accommodation at VISTEC
As VISTEC is fairly far from any town, there are limited options for accommodation.
Advantages: These are right next to the schools, and therefore very convenient, particularly for those who have to do experiments at odd hours. The use of facilities such as washing machines there are also free.
Disadvantages: There have been reports of insufficient facilities. Additionally, owing to the limited capacity, newcomers are sometimes housed at other locations (KVIS dormitories and Tohmai Resort) until room has been made.
Advantages: This is a relatively safe location, as there are security guards who monitor people going in and out. Laundry facilities are also free. During weekends, meals can be purchased from the KVIS canteen.
Disadvantages: Since it was built for high school students, there are no locks on the doors. Additionally, there is a loud wake-up call every weekday morning at 6.30am.
Advantages: It is relatively near (2km) to the town of Chum Saeng, which has a 7-11, Tesco Lotus Express, a market, as well as local shops and eateries. Breakfast can be purchased on weekend mornings.
Disadvantages: There is nothing in the immediate vicinity and it can be a boring experience to stay at Tohmai Resort. Caution should be taken when travelling to town by walking along the highway, as cars are fast and dogs are territorial.
VISTEC dormitories
There are five buildings next to VISTEC's research facilities and they are linked by sheltered walkways. These are currently allocated to students as well as certain visitors. The EnCony
This accommodation is run by a third party, and is located within walking distance of the School of IST. Research and administrative staff typically reside here.KVIS dormitories
These are the accommodations originally meant for the students of KVIS, the high school set up in tandem with VISTEC. It is also near VISTEC, although it would take more than 10 minutes to walk.Advantages: This is a relatively safe location, as there are security guards who monitor people going in and out. Tohmai Resort
A resort only in name, this place has little to offer beyond comfortable lodging. Washing machines are available at 30฿ per use. However, this is one of the closest accommodations found outside of VISTEC.
