Vis

Years ago (while I was studying for my first degree), I was playing several modpacks for MineCraft and there was a particular mod I enjoyed: Thaumcraft. The magical energy currency of Thaumology was called vis. In order to utilize vis effectively, in-game ‘research’ had to be performed in order to unlock a fantastic variety of game features and climb the technology tree.

VISTEC

At the time of writing I am doing graduate studies at VISTEC (a real-life research institute). While I don’t think there’s anything magical about science and engineering, I have heard that anything technologically advanced would seem like magic to a person who does not understand it. So it is indeed, that by pushing the frontiers of technology, researchers hope to create new tools and techniques.
